Design Futures Africa: Betty Chilonde
At the beginning of 2020, I joined a cohort of 6 Storytellers hailing from 6 countries across Southern Africa, on the Design Futures Africa project - powered by Twyg and working with the British Council, to document the journeys of six designers whose work embodies sustainability. The six designers had participated in the Circular Design Lab.
‘Design Futures Africa is a collaborative project between Twyg, storytellers and the British council using the power of narrative to further the reach and understanding of African designers.’
The Design Futures Africa project presented an opportunity for me to further immerse myself in the concepts of circular design and sustainability, within the context of Zambia.
I explored, and told the story of Betty Chilonde, a circular design practitioner, trainer and advocate. It is from this exploration that a fashion story was born and delivered as my part of the Design Futures Africa project.
